UX/UI Architect & Front-End Consultant

Walthamstow Wetlands was developed as part of Waltham Forest Council's digital commercialisation programme to promote Europe's largest urban wetland nature reserve. The website provided visitors with information about events, activities, conservation initiatives and visitor facilities while supporting the launch of a major new London attraction.

Project Focus

The project focused on creating a modern, engaging and highly accessible digital platform to support the launch of Walthamstow Wetlands following its transformation into a public visitor destination. The website needed to serve a wide range of audiences, including local residents, tourists, schools, conservation groups and event attendees.

My Contribution

Working as part of the Waltham Forest Digital Commercial Team, I contributed to the UX/UI architecture, front-end development and delivery of the website. The role involved translating business and visitor requirements into intuitive user journeys and responsive digital experiences that supported both visitor engagement and operational objectives.

Technical Environment

The website was delivered using Drupal 8 together with HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript and jQuery. Responsive design techniques ensured an effective user experience across desktop, tablet and mobile devices, while Agile delivery practices supported close collaboration between stakeholders, designers and developers throughout the project lifecycle.

Outcome

The completed website successfully supported the launch and promotion of Walthamstow Wetlands as a major visitor destination. By combining strong visual design, intuitive navigation and clear information architecture, the platform helped visitors discover the reserve, plan their visits and engage with the wide range of events, educational activities and conservation initiatives available throughout the year.
